Current Happenings

I am currently taking courses in higher education and am pondering whether to sign up for an extra M.Ed. on top of my Ph.D. It is tempting because most classes are eight weeks long. I am also developing two self-paced online courses that focus on public speaking and quantitative research. Look for a beta deployment in the near future.

Current Research

There are several research projects I currently have on my plate. I am currently writing two manuscripts that propose an examination of Blackboard sites and Twitter. For Blackboard, I am interested in doing a content analysis that examines how Blackboard is being used across the university. I am interested in comparing how different instructors use Blackboard (e.g., compare professors, teaching professors, and graduate instructors) and variation between different disciplines. This research project can help instructors and instructional designers create best practice guidelines for future instructors who want to use Blackboard. The second research project I am writing deals with a longitudinal study of Twitter use in a large lecture classroom. I am interested in whether increase Twitter use during lecture increases connectedness and decrease feeling of isolation.
